SHE'S BEAUTIFUL---AND WONDERFUL---AND SMART.
Somewhat like Eppie in the novel Silas Marner she appeared in my life.
With the help of her mother and the internet she found me. Words won't describe how happy this makes me.
Have a look: https://www.facebook.com/christine.j.santos.37
A poem in my book written 10 years ago- about another situation--is eeriely prophetic:
WILD OATS
He never knew he'd fathered a daughter
Till she was fully grown,
when she sought and found her mysterious dad
and claimed him as her own.
Wild oats often return to the sower;
Mostly they bite and stress us.
But now and then, fate with a grin
returns our oats to bless us.
What a terrific opportunity! I pledge to her that I will use all my wit and will to make this a good thing.
Congratulations! I hope she will prove to be another point of light in your life.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Randy. What wonderful news for you. Enjoy your lovely daughter and safe travels my friend.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I'm so happy for you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a remarkable plot twist! I look forward to hearing all about it. -Julie
ReplyDeleteWell....congratulations! Isn't modern technology wonderful!! Now the Old Codger has another reason to go on....this is awesome!
ReplyDeleteWOW. Just WOW!!!! Congrats Papa. It's a girl!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteThat's GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!
Randy, she is a beauty. I am so happy for you and her.
ReplyDeleteRandy - What a wonderful thing to learn! I looked at her fb page & her chosen career seems to have a lot in common with her dad's DNA. You both study people and behaviors. Isn't that interesting! Modern technology is fabulous! I wish you well in building a nice relationship with your beautiful daughter! Sincerely, Frontiergal
ReplyDeleteWhat a way to finish the year!! My best wishes to both of you and that both will be together for the rest of your life.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Randy!
ReplyDeleteOh, how exciting! Congratulations -it's a girl!!!
ReplyDeleteHow about that for Thanksgiving? Awesome!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Will we hear the probably very interesting story behind this astounding news? I took a look at her Facebook page and she seems just like a chip off the old block! She even grew up in New Mexico if I am not mistaken. I wish you all the happiness that might come from this reunion.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, not everyone gets to have a relationship with their offspring. Wish you all the best in getting to know one another. Happy Holidays to she and you.
ReplyDeleteThanks all for your kind support. Of course I will fill in more details in future posts.
ReplyDeleteWe've been talking frequently--will meet soon.
ReplyDeleteHi Randy,
Thanks for calling. I always enjoy hearing from you and wish we could have talked longer.
I get your excitement about finding out you have a 25 year old daughter. After reading the comments above and thinking more deeply about it, I wonder......what exactly are people "congratulating" you for ?
The fact is that you fucked someone (apparently without protection) 25 years ago who got pregnant , didn't tell you (did she even know how to get in touch with you ?), raised the child alone/fatherless, and then the child decided to track down her biological father (not uncommon for people who have never met their biological parent, in my experience) ?
I appreciate your saying in your blog that you "will use all my wit and will to make this a good thing."
What does that mean to you? You said on the call that now "your genes will continue". Aside from that, how will this impact your life ?
I'm not judging you, Randy. If anyone, I am judging those who think this is worthy of "congratulations".
Your shit stirrer friend (always),
Andy
My goodness, it's always a shock to read a "non-cupcake-ish" comment, such as the one that Andy just gave. I too think that you hardly deserve congratulations.
ReplyDeletePerhaps your story presents an interesting challenge to the reader: how would they behave if they were in your shoes? For my part, it would be difficult to be a good sport about this if the daughter wanted nothing to do with you, once the initial curiosity phase is over. After all, you are of no more importance to her than an anonymous donor from a sperm bank.
Whatever she decides, it is HER decision. You really have no rights and are not important.
can't wait for the next one to turn up! how many more could be out there?
ReplyDeleteTjamks Andy and Kabloonie for raising the question. I'm been asking it myself. I can think of 10 valuable things I can do to be a useful father--even at this late date.
ReplyDeleteRe Andy and kaBloonie's "why the congratulations" comments:
ReplyDeleteYou are a NEW father Randy. Right? From your perspective, you're a daddy! And isn't that worthy of congratulations? To celebrate your new-found fatherhood? Isn't that what most normal people do when they find out their friend has become a parent? Congratulate them?
I for one, am happy for you my friend.
Congratulations on your newfound fatherhood!
Wayne Wirs, he is a biological contributor to Christine's DNA, nothing more up until now.
ReplyDeleteIf you think that makes him a "father".....maybe, but a "daddy" ???????
Regardless, you have a right to congratulate him for whatever you think he deserves your congratulations.
Just wondering how you feel about the mother. If it was me I would be incredibly angry at her for refusing to let me know that I was a father.
ReplyDeleteAndy--Kabloonie: One good reason to congratulate me is that this opportunity makes me incredibly happy.
ReplyDeleteWeston: No, I'm not angry at her mother---she had very good reasons to keep this secret--and good reasons to share it in a timely manner. We have spoken at length and are on good terms.
Truly wonderful news, Randy! I wish you both wonderful years ahead as you get to know each other!
ReplyDeleteCongrats randy. It had to be wonderful and shocking. I'm pretty sure I gave up on the possibility of a little Jimmy showing up a long time ago. lol. While you may have missed out so far, cherish what life has offered. Someday there may be grand babies, I hear they are even better.
ReplyDeleteI did not know my daughter till she was 9 years old. It's been a rough trip for both of us. She has given me two wonderful grandkids and a cool son-in-law and am quite happy about the whole Father Grandpa thing after all these years.
ReplyDeleteOf course they think I'm nuts living the vagabond life!
This is simply fantastic news Randy! I am ever so happy for you.
ReplyDeleteRight ON, Andy!!
ReplyDeleteTypical Randy!
