Hordes of people are massed at the Guatamalan border with Mexico. They want to come to the U.S. and find a better life.
If we were to welcome them in, then very shortly another horde would assemble--also wanting to come here for a better life--and so on until we diluted ourselves to third world status.
NO DEMOCRATIC STRATEGIST IN AMERICA SEEMS TO UNDERSTAND THIS FACT.
Democrats, in general are soft and sentimental about this issue and cannot seem to form a coherent and sensible policy to deal with this and similar situations. I'm here to help.
Democrats are my people--I am a proud Liberal---believing we hold a vision for a better world.
BUT REGARDING THE ISSUE OF IMMIGRATION, THEY ARE DANGEROUSLY IGNORANT
AND COULD COST US VALUABLE SEATS IN THE UPCOMING ELECTION.
Democrats really would open our borders to unlimited immigration--in a variety of soft hearted policies such as "catch and release".(a misguided Obama policy)
They do this because they take seriously the words on the statue of liberty---"give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free. And because they also take seriously our legal policy on sanctuary; that anyone who shows up and says that they fear for their life at home---that we are obliged to harbor them--even let them become citizens.
Democrats---my people--will not cleanly admit that billions of people are in danger in their home country and if they could, would show up at our border asking for sanctuary, work, and eventually citizenship. We would be overrun--invaded--overwhelmed---with disasterous consequences.
Republicans understand this better than Democrats and unless we wake up to the threat of immigrant overwhelm, we may lose the great opportunity we have in the upcoming election.
WE NEED A CLEAR IMMIGRATION POLICY THAT WILL TAKE AWAY THE PUBLIC'S FEAR OF BEING INNUNDATED WITH ASYLUM SEEKERS AND BETTER-LIFE SEEKERS.
HERE'S WHAT I SUGGEST:
BOLDLY, VIGOROUSLY, LOUDLY, PERSISTENTLY DECLARE THAT WE DEMOCRATS RECOGNIZE THE DANGER OF BEING OVERRUN----AND WILL DEFINITELY, VIGOROUSLY, FORCEFULLY DEFEND OUR BORDERS AGAINST IT.
DECLARE BOLDLY, VIGOROUSLY AND FORCEFULLY THAT WE WILL FIND A NEW, CREATIVE WAY TO GIVE ASYLUM WITHOUT ALLOWING OURSELVES TO BE OVERRUN BY MILLIONS ARRIVING HERE WITH A STORY OF PERSECUTION.
We could, for example, arrange for a guarded, monitored camps IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY WHERE THEY WOULD BE WELCOMED, DEFENDED, FED AND HOUSED. The camp would offer security and survival but not a rich life. Living there would be just boring enough to stimulate their desire to return home as soon as possible..( Such a camp would screen out the "want a better life immigrants") (If you think The U.S. couldn't arrange for such a camp, then you don't understand the leverage our aid money gives.)(and camps such as described already exist in Jordan--one million Syrians refugees and Bangladesh--500,000 displaced Rohingas)
Republicans by and large are an ignorant and greedy mass that do not grasp the "oneness" of the nation but they do grasp better than the Democrats the threat of immigrant overdilution.
The American Indians did not see the immigrant threat soon enough to protect themselves. Nor did Mexico in the 1840's, see the immigrant threat to Texas soon enough--and so they lost it.
"Those who don't understand history are destined to repeat it." Santayana
Your last paragraph says it all.
ReplyDelete“IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY WHERE THEY WOULD BE WELCOMED, DEFENDED, FED AND HOUSED.”
ReplyDeleteWe have tens of thousands of Americans that would just love to be defended, fed and housed.
Suppose we took care of our own first and then saved the world?
Instead the current plan is to cut back on SNAP benefits, Medicade and subsidized housing for Americans.
Trump is a disgusting human being but some version of The Wall might be the only workable answer.
Maybe you could use your connections Randy to get Joe Arpaio down there to set up your "camps." After all, he is a convicted xenophobe.
ReplyDeleteYou may want to study a little more Texas history before you use it for an example. The simplest solution to our shrinking planet is to allow anyone, anywhere, after proper vetting for criminal or other concerns, travel to any participating nations. The adoption of blockchain tech in IDs, currency, Rx, Pro credentials and other critical docs will make this an obvious solution.
ReplyDeleteThose who want no barriers seem to never welcome them as THEIR next door neighbor. Just as those who vote for more war never talk about their children who are volunteering to do the fighting. As ever, NATO, if those speaking in righteous tones are not welcoming the consequences of their choices into their immediate daily life.
ReplyDeleteWe've streets and sewer systems that need repair, long term homeless, etc. if funds are not available for those why is there even a debate for the immigrants who will want benefit funding?? Mexico does not welcome them, as well as many other countries, why not debate their choice? If welcoming them meant your street did not get repaired, or your children's school's roof did not get updated would you welcome them? There is some cost involved, plain and simple. If it does impact your daily life or pocketbook, then it's just idle chit chat words that anyone can mouth from the riverbank, not willing to get IN the river with those whom they advocate for.
I like the examples you gave, in the last paragraph, of the consequences of immigration. Further afield, look at the consequences of northern European barbarians migrating/invading the Roman Empire.
ReplyDeleteYou are giving wise advice to the Democrats. I too think that the refugee caravan will redound to electoral gains for the GOP. But that probably wasn't the expectation of whoever is funding and organizing the caravan.
WHO IS funding and organizing it?
Anonymous: Well said--thank you
ReplyDeleteKabloonie: Thank you also --I celebrate this rare example where we agree.
Bon Vivant: You are clearly one of my people (democrat) and your vision of borderless free movement is a great ideal ---FOR THE DISTANT FUTURE. right now, it just helps out the Republican--who correctly understand the consequences. We fear hordes of people seeking a better life ILLEGALLY BARGING IN.
ReplyDeleteHere's a bet for you: I will publicly eat my hat if the following is not true:
Mexico once controlled Texas.
They allowed more or less unlimited immigration. (only had to swear a loyalty oath)
The new Texans soon decided they wanted to separate from Mexico. With war if necessary.
They did just that--took Texas away from Mexico.
google it and upgrade your history views.
Randy, I am so disappointed that you are a Democrat that hates Republicans. I watched “Without Bounds” and when I saw you I thought you were the most awesome guy. I have been considering Living and traveling in an RV and was hoping with all my heart that there would be a community that I could “tribe” with. One that would love one another regardless of political affiliation. Being the “ignorant Republican” that I am, I guess that I am wrong. I was hoping that living this lifestyle there would be no politics. Again, stupid me. If you could do one thing for me I would greatly appreciate it. Just tell me if all Mobile Livers are liberals that hate Republicans. If so I will manage somehow to hold onto a house that is too big filled with stuff I don’t need. What’s the difference if I am lonely here or out on the road.
ReplyDeleteDearn Unknown, I am a Lurker who has never commented here before now. I too am a liberal. I have no party affiliation. Now do you automatically assume that I hate you simply because you declare to be a Republican and I'm a liberal? Are we so divided that we automatically "hate" one another? Unfortunately many think so. I and my wife have an RV and get out for long trips 3 or 4 times a year. We do not full time, but I can say when we are on the road and encounter others politics rarely come up. Only if politics are part of your identity and you loudly proclaim it would find that others avoid you. No one is going to waste their own happiness long enough to "hate" you. I am sure there are "tribes" where politics matter little. Caring, compassion and genuine affection for others are much more important in finding a tribe than political leaning.
ReplyDeleteA scary proposition for you: Get on the road for a year and make friends, find your tribe. Then if you learn that all your friends are "liberals" what would you do? LOL
It seems most of your readers agree with your position. I don't because refusing legit people who are running for their life is inhuman. We do have military bases, ~1000, in most countries and they usually support corporate interests through tyrannical local governments. (They buy them like our placebo politicians are bought at home.) So the camps you envision are already there; the problem is they're part of the repression that is causing the flight.
ReplyDeleteThis is happening before climate chaos fully develops and nuclear wars proceed. We're all likely to be refugees before long so let's at least have some friends and support one another. My experience with immigrants is they are generally superior to our counter parts and they improve the place. At least for a while, so "dilution" is not a great concern for me.
Since when are RVers worried about more RVers?
In fact, it could sound like a reach for "purity" in a melting pot nation.

Interesting thoughts being floated here,
ReplyDeleteMy first time reading lurking is more like it.
Landed here looking for Randy Vinings’s book. Not figuring to find him in this nook ✌️.

I have strong feelings about immigration and know a bit of historical facts as to why people are fleeing .
I originally found Randy and other RVers watching Utube video-our Family has given up on TV News 10 min scattered throughout the day with chaos Man is my max.
I will be following your discussion on immigration and watching it unfold. I’m a Bernie Sanders Supporters Volunteer Senior Who oon occasion gets out Travel lust going .
Take Care
I don't know anyone who wants more out of control illegal immigration or being overrun with asylum seekers. And I'm talking democrats and also Hispanics who are citizens and legal residents.
ReplyDeleteNeither party has put forth a viable solution, they both like to use the situation as a wedge issue. But it's been most advantageous for republicans and their business interests, first they allowed hiring of illegals for the cheap labor and secondly they get to demonize and scapegoat the powerless workers and whip up resentment against them amongst their voters. I always said they should issue worker visas and then the migrants could support their families back home and return to them, crossing the border both ways as necessary in a legal manner. Believe me most Mexicans prefer living in Mexico but the work is here.
Randy, it's unfortunate that you seem to believe that Democrats are the ones responsible for the laxity in immigration. I don't think that's accurate. And by the way, Obama deported more immigrants than previous administrations or the current one, google it.
We're in Tucson right now stopping by to vote but then we're moving back down to La Ventana in Baja for the winter kite boarding season. I don't know why your people don't winter in Mexico, it's pretty great.
